Interstellar

I'm constantly trying to gauge where the industry is at with the rate of AI progress. I ask every software engineer I meet how they've integrated AI into their workflow. The variance in answers is actually very confusing and stressful at times.

Waking up this morning to codex / GPT-5.2 from OpenAI completing 3hrs of continuous work building and running end to end tests for an app, I had this feeling of being like Cooper from Interstellar when he watches the videos of his kids back after being away for 23 years.

The current rate of improvement is like watching the last 23 years of my life on fast forward. Making peace with that rate of progress is actually very unsettling and sad on the one hand, and obviously very exciting on the other hand.

But it also feels like a large cohort of software engineers don't know wtf I'm talking about, which is weird. It digs up a bunch of questions on purpose and value and craft that I don't have good answers for yet.

Anyone else have the same feeling? or are we just like oh cool 3hrs of pristine autonomous work just popped out. Feedback genuinely appreciated.
